In 2009 the art writing collective antepress addressed the question ‘what is art writing?’ in a live 60-minute discussion on Resonance 104.4fm.

The discussion uses as prompts recordings of animal sounds, the call of the lyrebird, Henri Chopin’s 1951 audiopoem Rouge, Carl Dreyer’s 1932 film Vampyr and the Eames’ 1971 film Powers of Ten, with reference to writing by Denis Diderot, Roland Barthes and Michael Fried.

The programme was commissioned to introduce the antepress series Digestives, a weekly 15-minute programme on art writing which was to run for two years on Resonance.

antepress was set up in 2008 by Julia Calver, Patrick Coyle, Cresida Kocienski, Claire Nichols, Tamarin Norwood and Gemma Sharpe, who met through the Goldsmiths MFA Art Writing.
